Before Beauty in Black, Justin Williams Was Literally Playing With Fire
Long before Netflix, international tours, and national television, Justin Williams was simply a young man with a dream, a relentless work ethic, and a refusal to let rejection write the ending to his story.

Some careers are carefully planned.
Justin Williams' wasn't.
If you ask him today how he became an actor, he'll probably tell you that none of it happened the way he expected. The goal was always Hollywood, but the road there looked nothing like the one he imagined.
Long before audiences saw him in Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black, Justin was chasing opportunities the old-fashioned way. He began modeling professionally in 2005, contacting agencies, photographers, and anyone willing to give him a chance. What he found instead was rejection. He was told he was "too muscular." Others told him he was "too dark." Every "no" forced him to ask the same question: If this door won't open, what's the next one?
Instead of walking away from entertainment, Justin pivoted.
"I never wanted to be an exotic dancer," he says. "Acting was always the destination. Dancing simply became the vehicle that allowed me to keep performing while I figured out how to get there."
That decision unexpectedly transformed him into one of the most recognizable live entertainers in the country. Rather than simply performing, Justin became obsessed with creating experiences audiences couldn't stop talking about. Every show became an opportunity to experiment, entertain, and push himself creatively.

Then came the idea that changed everything.
While competing in Jamaica's annual Man of Dreams competition, Justin found inspiration in an unlikely childhood memory. As he prepared for the competition finals, he remembered lighting rubbing alcohol on his hands as a kid just to watch the flames. Instead of dismissing the memory, he challenged himself to turn it into a performance.
The gamble worked.
His fire performance captivated the audience, earned him the competition title, and immediately caught the attention of television producers. What started as one bold creative decision quickly became his signature, opening doors to appearances on VH1's Love & Hip Hop New York alongside Jim Jones, Chrissy Lampkin, and Mama Jones, followed by a memorable performance on The Jerry Springer Show. Those appearances introduced Justin to millions of viewers and dramatically expanded his audience beyond the live entertainment world.
The momentum didn't stop there.

Over the next several years, Justin performed in 21 countries across four continents, eventually relocating to London, where he headlined three European tours and performed more than one hundred shows throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. While the travel elevated his career, the experience reshaped his perspective.
"Europe taught me how to think bigger," Justin says. "It wasn't just about being talented anymore. It was about understanding branding, presentation, confidence, and becoming the complete package."
Despite building an international following, Justin never lost sight of the dream that started everything. That determination led MTV to chronicle one of the most transformative periods of his life in True Life: I Need to Change My Man! For seven months, cameras followed him as he worked to transition from exotic entertainment into mainstream acting and modeling. The documentary wasn't just about changing careers, it was about changing public perception.
"That experience showed me I belonged in front of the camera," he says. "It gave me confidence that acting wasn't just something I wanted to do. It was what I was supposed to do."
Years later, that belief would carry him to the set of Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black. Working under one of Hollywood's most respected creators became another milestone in a journey built on preparation. Rather than seeing the opportunity as a finish line, Justin viewed it as another chance to grow, learn, and continue earning his place in the industry.

That growth continues with Marriage Box, the upcoming relationship series hosted and executive produced by Terrence J. Unlike scripted television, the series introduces audiences to Justin as himself, alongside his fiancée, Chanel, giving viewers a chance to see the man behind the performances while celebrating authentic Black love on screen.
What makes Justin's story remarkable isn't that he eventually landed on Netflix. It's that every chapter before Netflix mattered.
The rejection taught resilience.
The stage taught confidence.
Television taught presence.
International touring taught discipline.
Each experience became another piece of the actor audiences are watching today.

As Justin continues pursuing major film, television, and streaming opportunities, he is actively seeking theatrical and commercial representation in Los Angeles to help guide this next chapter of his career. With more than twenty-one years of experience in entertainment, a global résumé, and growing momentum in Hollywood, he believes the best work of his career is still ahead.
